Ingredients
  1. 2 pounds ground beef
  2. 2 green bell peppers, diced
  3. 1/2 cup chili sauce
  4. 1/2 cup ketchup
  5. 1/2 cup water
  6. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  7. 2 teaspoons chili powder
  8. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  9. salt and pepper, to taste
  10. 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  11. 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  12. hamburger buns of your choice
Toppings
  1. 2 large onions, sliced
  2. 2 jalapeño peppers, sliced
  3. pepper jack cheese
Instructions
  1. In a skillet or dutch oven, cook the ground beef until brown. Remove from heat, drain off the fat and discard.
  2. Add the green pepper and cook a few minutes, until soft.
  3. Add chili sauce, ketchup, water, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Simmer for 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  5. Meanwhile, while the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, cook the onions and jalapeños in a small skillet. These will be used for topping the sloppy joes. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on medium heat, until onions and jalapeños are nice and golden brown.
  6. Place the tops of your hamburger buns on top of the onions and jalapeños to slightly brown the buns.
  7. Spoon the meat mixture over the buns, topping with a slice of pepper jack cheese. Serve hot and enjoy!
